5. How to Get Free Dating Traffic? 7 tips to get the best deal

Have you heard that banners don't work? Well, you heard wrong.
Good old banners still work - otherwise you wouldn't see so many of them around. And they work especially well on the dating websites.
Maybe dating site visitors are tuned in to photos and graphics imagery. Maybe there's another explanation. But the fact remains: properly used banners can bring you strong dating traffic and good profits.
The banner exchange principle is old and simple: your banner ads are displayed on the other web sites in exchange for their banners on your pages.
Visitors click on the banners and go from site to site. In exchange for the visitors leaving your site - you get the new ones coming to see your site. Picture a shop in a busy downtown location and you'll get the idea: more traffic generates more sales.
But not all banner networks are created equally. New networks pop up and disappear all the time. Not every network will have good business ethics or produce good traffic for you.
Here are some tips to help you judge banner networks like a pro:
  • Check the domain registration date. If it is less than a year ago - it is a newbie with weak websites and no track record. You can get more troubles than traffic from them.
  • Check them on dmoz.org and think twice if it isn't listed there.
  • Do they let you see the list of the websites using their network? If not - beware: they don't have much to show you. A popular network will not hide the evidence of its popularity.
  • How large is the network? The bigger it is - the better, the more sites will display your banners and the more people will visit your site. Smaller networks have poor demographic coverage and low CTR (click through rate – the ad campaign efficiency index).
  • Is there a mailing address and contact phone on the site? If not – it’s a bad sign. Respectable networks don't hide their contact information from its users.
  • Do they let you block unwanted banners from your pages? It comes handy but many networks won't let you control it.
  • Is there something funny on their banner codes? For example, do they hide links on banners? (i.e. when you roll your mouse over a banner and it doesn’t show the linking URL in the status bar). If they do - it's a disturbing sign. Every established network would rather display its URL than hide. But shady operators who rotate your banners on dubious websites will want to mask it. They could also feed inappropriate content to the ad spots on your own web site.
  • Entrusting your advertising and your ad spots is a serious step. Checking a banner network beforehand prevents you from costly mistakes and guarantees strong traffic and good income. It makes sense to work with an established banner network, already chosen by hundreds dating web sites. Eight hundred sites can't be wrong.
